Yamada is a shy girl in high school who loves doing greenery committee work, but one day she falls into conversation with kase-san the popular and talented school track star. Suddenly Yamada's whole life changes and she realises she likes kase-san.

Gene Autry is back near the saddle, trying to help out a crippled jockey. Gene is certain that the jockey can ride in the Big Race if the lad can regain his self-confidence. Meanwhile, Gene and comical sidekick Sterling Holloway have another problem on their hands: A rogue stallion has "kidnapped" Gene's prize mare. Piloting a plane, Autry seeks out and locates the stallion.

Mike Stone's back and his old partner, Steve Keller, is missing. So Mike heads up an investigation. At the same time, he is investigating another brutal murder. And he is trying to decide which of two inspectors shall he recommend for the position of Lieutenant; a woman who has a "Dirty Harry" tendency or a man who reminds him of Steve Keller.

Although greatly abbreviated and simplified, and in a back-and-forth sequence, almost all of the dialogue and narration is based on words extracted from the original story. The setting of the original film (1957), in which long-distance calls are connected to a switchboard so that the recipient knows where the call is coming from, has been eliminated, and the public telephones are digital telephones installed after 1996.
